The Charley Co. Story

·      Bryn Carter founded Charley Co. in an attempt to start doing work that made her soul happy. In designing her business model, the two things that kept presenting themselves were her passion for bringing people together and for helping build communities to support female empowerment. She wanted to build a space where the amazing women of Denver could come to grow alongside one another in both their personal and professional lives. A space where women could naturally embrace the roles of both student and teacher. A work environment where competition was left at the door and vulnerability could be worn freely. Below is a Q&A session with Bryn to answer our community’s most frequently asked questions!

Who is the community for?

I don't like to pinpoint who Charley’s is for because I think it can be for SO many different kinds of women. Charley’s is for any woman looking to push herself to do her best work. It’s a space for women who want to grow their community. It is for women who believe that when women work together, only good things can come from it. It is for those who believe that they have skills to offer and also have skills they want to learn to help their business blossom. This is a community of fierce individuals who are looking to build genuine relationships and who want to grow their business with help from the Charley’s team and the Charley’s community.

What make Charley Co. different?

Well, for starters, Charley’s is my own concept– locally made you might say! I think it’s important to really know your members. I’ve been in Denver 10 years now and have been lucky enough to meet and work alongside so many of the incredible women found in this city. When it was time to conceptualize Charley’s, I went directly to these women to ask what they would want in a co-working space. Charley’s is a boutique co-working space that really resonates with a lot of people in regard to size. What I heard, is that women want to be a part of a community, but to not get lost in the mix as just a number. Charley’s is really focused on the business building aspect, that’s why we’ve made it a priority to bring in teachers and mentors to genuinely help members with this. The one feature that I’ve NEVER seen in another co-working space is our salon, Jolene's. Any ladies in the hair/makeup industry feel free to contact us to learn more about renting it out!

Why women’s only?

I had someone ask me if I didn’t like men and that just isn’t the case at all! I have so many supportive men in my life, whom I support in return. Charley’s is not anti-men by any means, that’s not what the space is about. The space is about bringing women together in hopes to take away the demands and unrealistic expectations placed on the female population. Our motto is “Come As You Are” for a reason – it goes further then just the appearance level. If you want to come after the gym in your workout clothes-great! If you want to dress to the nines- fantastic! It’s also saying to come and be vulnerable. To allow yourself to let your walls down with other women and to know you have all these members and the Charley Co. team who are here to support you.

How did you choose the name and serpentine image?

I wanted a name that was both male/female with the female spelling. Charley Co. just rolls off the tongue and embodies the sense of ‘every woman’. As for the serpentine image, historically, snakes represent fertility and creative life force. I see them as strong animals- capable of literally shedding their own skin to become new. That is what really resonated with me and why I decided on the serpentine as the logo for Charley’s. This is a space where women can come and shed anything that is feeling heavy. A space where they can creatively grow and be supported by the other women who are also working hard to grow and prosper.

What are the advantages of becoming a member?

To become a member of our coworking community introduces you to like-minded women who are striving to be the best versions of themselves in both their personal and professional lives. Our members wake up excited to go Charley’s on a Monday morning and see familiar faces of women who are supporters and confidants. Here you are part of a community of women who aren’t trying to compete with you or bring you down, but rather women who want to work beside you and help build you up. Becoming a member gives women a safe space to be who they are without any hesitation. To show up every day knowing they have sisters behind them who are ready to help them. Ready to guide them. Ready to listen to them. Ready to laugh with them. Ready to grow with them.

 Meet the Team

Bryn Carter Bryn is a Midwest girl through and through. Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, she is the younger of two children to her incredible parents, Steve and Lisa. Growing up, Bryn’s parents constantly encouraged her to ‘do her own thing’ and were firm believers in non-traditional education. She attended schools that were based around Howard Gardner’s 8-intelligences where she learned from an early age how to voice her opinions and experiences the world. Bryn graduated from Hope College and moved to Australia for a year before deciding to land in Denver, Colorado in 2010- where she has been ever since. With a background in marketing and a masters in creative writing, Bryn has constantly found herself amongst creative minds and freelance workers. Bryn had her ‘coming to Jesus’ moment when she realized she wanted to do meaningful work. When she sat down and wrote out what was important to her, two things kept appearing on her list: helping build community and bringing women together. It was then that she decided to open a women’s co-working space with a focus on helping women build both their personal and professional lives. Bryn hopes Charley’s will act as a safe space for women to come and know their work is admired, appreciated and always encouraged. When she isn’t living at Charley’s, you can her hosting women’s networking experiences at Safeword, spending time with her amazing friends or traveling with her man. Bryn is always excited to meet new people so feel free to drop her a line – bryn@charleycowork.com

Naomi Gaeng As a Denver native, Naomi was so excited about the addition of Charley Co. to the growing babe community. With a background in tech and consumer goods she often works remotely and was excited to have a space to call home that was also surrounded by women looking to grow their network. When she's not at Charley's, you can find Naomi drinking copious amounts of coffee (or wine depending on the hour) or coaching pilates. Contact Naomi for membership, events, partnerships, and community information. naomi@charleycowork.com
